I’m often asked, Obsidian, why do you keep asking the same questions over and over again?

That’s a very good question. And the answer is, after giving the whole ball of wax some thought, is this:

Because people don’t actually answer the question being asked; they answer the question THEY WANT TO BE ASKED.

In other words, people respond to things based on their assumptions; and when their assumptions don’t jibe w/the objective facts, they’ll twist the question(s) to suit their already preconceived notions.

I really don’t have a problem with that in and of itself. Hey, we’re all Human Beings, and a big part of being Human is being contradictory, irrational, emotive and illogical. I completely get that. I have a great deal of empathy for that. Afterall, I’m Human too, at least last time I checked.

What bothers me though, is the way in which so many people attempt to defend their wholly subjective views of the world. This blogging effort, like so many other things I’ve done in my life, has been a big learning experience to me, in just how and why people think and act as they do. And while they often will try to appeal to authority-Science, for example-in truth, all they’re doing is attempting to find some outside source, one larger than themselves and those they’re “fighting”, that agrees with or supports their argument.

That’s where things get dangerous, for a whole host of reasons, but just to state one, its because disciplines like Science was originally intended to merely establish, through controlled testing environments and the like, the left and right of things. But as we know, Science has been and will continue to be used for biased political ends, on all sides of the spectrum.

So, why don’t people simply say look, I just *feel* this way or that way about something, OK? It has no rational basis, its not logical in the least, I just feel some kind of way about XYZ.

Well, that’s because we live in a time where Science itself is kind of seen as a religion if you will; and merely shooting from the hip, particularly on issues such as Race, connotes imagers of hooded Klansmen, themselves barely literate backwoods country hicks who scapegoat Blacks and Jews as a way to assuage the failures of their own lives. Having a more higherbrow tone to one’s statements, gives them the air of sounding more considered, measured, *intelligent*.

Besides, if we simply admit that we have a personal view about something, it is easily dismissed; that’s YOUR problem, YOU brought that on yourself, and so on. However, if we can link our personal gripes to larger causes, then, its something bigger than all of us! A pernicious force that must be dealt with, and so on.

Personally, I find it both amusing and disheartening to see so much mental and emotional energy being utterly wasted in the name of defending oneself, their views and so on, against real and more often than not, *perceived* enemies; if such people could merely admit that they have a right to their personal, emotive and wholly subjective feelings and views, so much energy could be freed up to pursue other meaningful things in their lives.

A few examples comes to mind of what I mean here.

Everyone by now knows who Lady Raine is. Over the weekend, I had a series of very interesting exchanges with her that perfectly illustrates my points made above. Lady Raine’s entire being is one that is defensive in extremis, and this is due to her many insecurities, among them being taken advantage of romantically and sexually by a Man who was abusive and had a drinking problem. This led to her being a single mother on her own, and every chance she gets she is keen to tell the world how she does this and that for her son, she don’t need no Man, etc, et al. For all her protestations against Black folks, she sounds very close to a certain type of Sista to me, LOL.

Then, her “crusade” against Game and more to the point Roissy, is both a sad yet fascinating sight to behold. She freely admits to not having read one single book on the topic, not ever having talked to one guy who attended any bootcamp events, of course she’s never attended any, and so on-yet she feels perfectly competent to attack, wholesale, the Game and PUAsphere. I mean, even a rank beginner in Logic 101 could eviscerate her arguments-but there she is, going on and on, aided and abetted by other ladies.

But the truth is, she was and still is very hurt by what went down w/her baby daddy, and was hurt by Roissy’s actions, none of whom I am aware of, defended. And, I think she would have gotten a heck of a lot more sympathy-she certainly would have gotten it from me-if she simply said that, instead of putting up this Great Wall of China front, and tilting at so many windmills. Its truly, truly sad.

OneSTDV needs no introduction here, but he presents a textbook example of what I mean. His entire online being is devoted to basically excoriating Black folk and White Liberals, the bane to his existence. His very screen name, refers to the difference between Black and White IQs, Blacks being lower than that of Whites of course. Hardly a day will pass when he’s not going at one group or the other, and the conclusion one must come to after reading this is that one or both groups are the reason why his life has been made so difficult.

But instead of merely owning up to the fact that maybe he simply wasn’t good enough to get into Princeton, and that-not Darkies taking his rightful place from vis a vie Affirmative Action-explains why he isn’t there today, he instead continues his HBD-informed tirade against White Liberals and Black people in the main. Which is sad, since even other HBD types, like Planet Grok, have pointed out that focusing so much on Blacks and Affirmative Action is really kind of counter productive if one wants to make real headway on the HBD front. Moreover, those who want to go into Big Law, Neuro-Medicine, or the STEM fields, have little to fear from Pookie and Ray Ray taking their jobs or college spaces. In truth, the only Whites who are really taking the brunt of Affirmative Action are the kinds of Whites guys like OneSTDV don’t think that highly of either-the White Proles like mailmen, firefighters, cops and so on. So, why does he continue to go on and on about his “scientific” stuff?

Because it explains his plight. That’s why.

Deery is yet another example of what I call entertaining Dangerous Assumptions. Ever notice how, when we’re discussing one issue, she’ll suddenly bring up a topic that has nothing to do with the current discussion? I’ve noticed her do this a number of times, and I think the reason why she does this is because the current discussion at the time contains within it implications that are too uncomfortable for her to deal with, and rather than simply saying look, this just the way I feel about thus and so, and leaving it at that, she has to bring Tobey into it-that’s the name I’ve given to her Rationalization Hamster-and attempt to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic, so to speak. We saw this as recently as last week, when I took socalled Black Elites to task for majoring in the minors on social issues. What was fascinating to me was that out of more than 50 comments and a number of them being made by highly college educated Black folks who openly disagreed with Deery’s position, she clung tenaciously to her views. That’s OK, but when she couldn’t even acknowledge what everyone else was saying, that’s when I had to end it. I even went so far as to saying to her, look, given what I know about your personal history and so forth, I can dig it, that wasn’t good enough. I mean, Wow.

There are many other examples I can cite, but the above should illustrate what I mean. Nor do I want to give the impression that I am somehow above the fray-I’m not. What I try to do though, is realize that my personal views must remain separate from the issues at hand when discussing something, and to have the maturity to know when something hits a bit too close to home for me to either recuse myself, or to simply lay my cards on the table, as irrational and logically inconsistent they may be. That way, if nothing else, no one can say that I’m BSing them-

Or engaging in a host of Dangerous Assumptions.
