Once again one of my the astute readers of The Obsidian Files has come through, offering the following Science Blogs post about a  new University of Chicago social science book that shows that African American Males are the hardest hit in society and least likely to get the assistance they badly need. The study covers a rather broad range of life measures, and this undeniably explains what we have been seeing in the decades since the Civil Rights era.

None of this comes as any surprise to regular readers of my humble missive; I’ve been quite detailed in making the case as to how and why Black Men are not only up against it as a group, but are truly Men without a Country in this regard. Regardless as to the facts on the ground, American society has said, quite clearly, that they regard Black Men as the “problem” - and therefore, if anything, they intend to fund more programs to keep Black Men as far away from the epicenter of American life as possible.

Meanwhile, yet another great reader of the Files offered a story outlining what we’ve all known to be true - that in America’s biggest cities, unmarried Women – both White, and Black – are clearly making more money, not less, than White and Black Men of the same age. Of course, this is seen as a triumph, and in many ways, it is. But, as I’ve mentioned above, we already know that there will be nothing said as to addressing the real problems that beset Males, especially Black ones.

What’s the end game, you may ask? From this distance of time, it’s hard to say; my guess, based on both observation and direct experience, is that White Men will continue to refuse to see allies in Black Men and instead will see adversaries, while Black Women will continue to do what they’ve always done - lay the blame for their lack of success in “having it all” squarely at the feet of those same Black Men. Surely, there will be little if anything said or done on the political level; Obama simply can’t risk upsetting the Working Class White Male Vote by suggesting that Black Men, who voted for him in record numbers and still overwhelmingly support him by all accounts, are worthy of our specific and sustained support. Whether he intended to or not, whether he likes it or not, Obama has found out that he, as a self-identified Black Man, isn’t viewed as “one of us” by White America, no matter what he does, no matter how hard he works or plays by the “rules”.

Join the club, Mr. President. You truly are a Black Man now.

Now adjourn your asses…
