Having come to realize how much grandmothers care about grandchildren, I recently wondered how much women would like to have feminist women be mothers to their grandchildren.
Do women like the idea of their grandchildren’s mothers being sexually liberated, careerist types who will hand the care of their children over to the fathers? Do they want them taking their children to slutwalks?
When you view feminism in these terms, it starts to look a lot less like a valid social movement and a lot more like plain old selfishness and irresponsibility. I’d even be willing to bet that women who were straight-up second wave feminists in the 1970s would be highly put off by a daughter in law who refused to do her duties as a mother.
Additionally, what mother in her right mind would want her son to marry a feminist? Unless she really hated him, I can’t see the idea doing anything besides giving her chills.
Because feminism is all about “ME” it looks great to a lot of women when they come of age. But when ME comes at one’s personal expense, the shine starts to wear off. Today, it comes at the expense of virtually everyone besides fertile women. This is why feminism will never become an entrenched value in society — it will fail the generational crossover test as soon as large numbers of second wavers start to have grandchildren, which is happening right about now.
