As I go through it all over again, I’m reminded of how utterly wasteful family law procedure is in the US. The loss of productivity, the missed chances for children of divorce and the unnecessary conflict it creates are such a hindrance that I wonder how we can afford it at all. In a sense, it’s a return to savagery, where, rather than turn their minds toward human progress, people wasted all their efforts on passing fancies, petty squabbles and vendettas.
Perhaps it’s significant that, over 40 years after the first moon landing, as of yesterday we no longer have a space program capable of launching people into orbit. Today, for most Americans, it’s all about the newest reality show, celebrity scandals and the next orgasm.
As for me, however this turns out, I just want to get back to work…
