Feminisms main boosters tend to be unmarried, childless women. With the exception of a few professional male feminists (e.g. academics, family law attorneys, politicians), there are virtually no male feminist fathers.
I’m not sure this was always the case; back in the 70s and 80s younger mothers likely identified with feminism far more than today. But now, despite the fact that feminists pushed through a number of policy changes that have resulted in the highest rate of single motherhood in our history coupled with the draconian, punitive laws against their children’s fathers, the most active and strident feminists out there are childless women. Sure, wives and single mothers may take advantage of feminist inspired law to nail their chidlren’s fathers to the wall in divorce, custody and child support cases, but they do not generally self-identify as feminists. In fact, the women most likely to be particularly vicious to their baby-daddies tend to come from the lower socioeconomic segments of society, in which feminism is a vague concept at best. These are also the women who have arguably been done the most wrong by the ideology, as the power to inflict harm granted by feminism is disproportionate to their ability to judge whether doing so is a good idea.
So feminist family law and policy has served as a sort of statutory arms proliferation, analogous to flooding volatile inner-city neighborhoods with guns. This shows how conservatives and liberals are more like each other than they would like to admit. Your typical conservative in a rural part of the country where gun violence is rare strongly holds onto his gun rights, while the urban liberal surrounded by violent crime is convinced that gun control is a necessity. Feminists and their supporters, for their part, live in a world of moderate sexual activity where everyone is responsible about birth control, children are not the expected outcome of the overwhelming majority of sexual relationships, and the power granted by feminist family law is not seen as a dangerous tool that can cause real harm to innocent people, including children.
As the rural conservative looks around at his community and the people he knows and comes to the conclusion that guns are not the problem, the feminist looks at herself and her friends and decides that feminist policy is perfectly reasonable. She and her friends practice safe sex, plan their pregnancies and generally consort with mild-mannered, well-educated men. Although she may extoll the virtues of sexual freedom, she cannot possibly conceive of what the implications of that are for the less restrained members of our society. As for false rape accusations, neither she nor her friends would ever falsely accuse a man of such, so why would anyone else do it?
In the feminist’s world of responsible use of birth control, family planning and “progressive” relationships the laws and policies that have wrought so much havoc throughout the lower socioeconomic strata of society are seen as beneficial and – at worst – harmless. She doesn’t see the real effects of being a slut, which include impoverished single motherhood, sexually transmitted diseases, fatherless children and social welfare burdens. Not having children, she doesn’t understand how a woman leaving a man on a whim can be a very bad thing. Failing to understand that a great many women act impulsively (as do plenty of men), she can’t see why one would make up a lie about rape or domestic abuse.
Perhaps I am giving feminists a bit too much credit here — many of them probably do understand, and through a selfish sort of justification process have convinced themselves that the problems other people face as a result of their policies are due to their inferiority as people. This is one of the fundamental problems with liberals; they tend to dismiss people negatively affected by their actions and politics as stupid and ignorant, and therefore deserving of it.
However, whether or not the people negatively affected by feminism are “stupid,” one might think that good people would rather see their children grow up in stable families in which they can know their fathers and respect their mothers. If this is not more important to feminists than the right of women to have sexual gratification with the fewest consequences possible, then it is a failed ideology that must be rejected by anyone with a healthy sense of morality.
