Because recent events have driven home the point that it isn’t always a good idea to rely on “free” services offered by large companies (who shall remain nameless here), I just installed Mint tracking software (written by Shaun Inman) that provides a real-time view of stats and traffic.
Although there were a couple annoyances during installation, I’ve got it up and running and it’s a nice little program. I can see what articles people have just found, as well as the keywords, links, and twitter referrals that led them here.
From what I’ve seen so far, I’m pretty happy with the software, and if no bugs come up I’ll definitely give it my approval and recommend Mint to any other bloggers out there who are not altogether pleased with what the free services provided by that other company have to offer. Also, at $30, it’s a pretty fair deal for the utility it provides.
