I still haven’t decided whether I want to use this url for a new site or not, but I’m leaning against it because I’d like a fresh start and The Spearhead deserves to be what it was. If I can, I think I’ll keep it online as it is just for reference purposes.
However, comments stopped working when I updated WordPress last fall, and that pretty much convinced me I needed to take a break. I just don’t have the time to fiddle with the code or to rebuild the site with an entirely new theme, which would have been necessary. If I did it myself it would have taken weeks (I’m not a professional developer), and on top of that I’m not really inspired by what MRA has become as its themes have gone mainstream. Not that this bothers me – it’s a welcome development – but I’m constitutionally averse to engaging in debates that have already been settled. And feminism has been discredited. The recent election, which saw politicians running on feminist themes get slaughtered, pretty much drove that point home. So has the Rolling Stone rape fantasy article and its spectacular shootdown.
This doesn’t mean that feminism is done for just yet, but it is listing to port and limping badly. Its primary champions are well into old age, and resurgent religious and political movements are running away from it.
So I’m going from gender issues to something I think is a little more salient today, which subsumes the issue. I’ll be a bit more explicit soon, but I still have some reading and writing to do to work it out some of the ideas I’ve come up with in the local library over the last couple months.
In the meanwhile, I’ll try to get in touch with other writers I respect to see what they think, and perhaps we can come up with some sort of new focus that brings manosphere ideas into a new, more comprehensive cultural effort.
