I’ve been getting a great many emails about Thomas Ball’s self-immolation, and some requests to write about it in comments. I think it’s an important story, but it’s one of those things that I want to think about a bit so as to understand what the lessons are here. Fortunately, the incident has already been fairly well-covered in the manosphere, so it’s fairly well known. However, if you haven’t yet heard about what happened, it involves a CPS and child support case, and Mr. Ball’s struggles with the local bureaucracy and its enforcement arms.

I’m going to reflect on this one and see what I can come up. Mr. Ball left us with a fair amount of material in his long essay explaining his decision, and it’s not the kind of thing one wants to go off on half cocked.
A friend pointed out how remarkable it is that this incident has received no national news coverage, but actually this doesn’t surprise me much. There’s a lot here that is extremely uncomfortable for those in positions of comfort and security. In fact, if they have any sense at all, they should be downright terrified, but I’ll get to that later.
