Another quarter has rolled by, and once again the bills are coming in. Running The Spearhead is a labor of love, but it incurs expenses in both time and money, and I am not in a position to support the site without help from readers. Advertising revenue helps, but due to the politically sensitive nature of our content, it is difficult to rely on the standard sources, such as Google Adsense, which pulled the plug over a year ago.
As I pointed out in the “Next Steps” piece a couple days ago, the site has stabilized and has a solid reader base in the thousands. With almost 1,700 articles published, it has become an online institution, and has significantly influenced the debate on feminism and gender issues. In just the last couple years, we have helped smash a number of taboos and given more and more people the courage to stand up to and challenge politically correct dictates. Some of our articles have had a lasting impact and remain widely read long after they were published.
It is deeply satisfying to see how so many people’s eyes have been opened by our commitment to disseminating the truth. For too long, unconscionable abuses have been swept under the rug, but people are finally starting to recognize that men are human beings, fathers mean more than a monthly check, and even men who have been accused of crimes by women have civil rights. The changes are subtle from day to day, but in looking back over a few short years they are obvious.
I am committed to keeping the site going as long as it has loyal readers and a purpose, but I’ll need your help. Compared to feminist sites of similar size and reach, many of which are supported by corporate foundations and government grants, The Spearhead runs on a very small budget. In fact, it’s pretty amazing how much it’s achieved with so few resources, and this speaks to the power and truth of our message. Every donation goes a long way here. For example, when I first made a call for support two years ago, I was at a real crossroads, and the support the site received is what convinced me to stick with it and build it to what it is today. I can’t thank the generous people who have helped out enough, but I can promise to stick with it and keep writing, publishing and promoting content that defends our interests.
One thing I’ve learned running this site is that we are in this together, and that’s a great source of faith in mankind — I’ve become a great deal more optimistic about what we can accomplish.
