I couldn’t make a better work of satire if I tried, but these people are serious.
Today in Business Insider, a hilarious stock photo essay attempts to breathe new life into the stale corpse of feminist delusion. The graphic work looks suspiciously like the legendary “What Happened to Women?” format of yesteryear, which only proves that in today’s competitive journalism market savvy career writers are starting to pilfer ideas from the mano-sphere, not to mention certain well-known “game” bloggers. All the requisite “women empowered/women victims” imagery is there, along with some great “frat boy” memes, which I especially like since my son Hermann is now living the frat-boy lifestyle. I ast him would he like me to show up piss-drunk and give an inspirational talk to the fellas but so far he has been non-committal.
The Business Insider stock-photo essay profiles a forthcoming book by Sheryl Sandberg, of “FaceBook” fame, which posits that the reason women are so downtrodden is that they are not “taught” to promote themselves as leaders. This is old whine in new bottles. The consistent refrain from dissatisfied women is that no one taught them, or they were taught wrong, or society expects them, or society doesn’t approve, or boys were encouraged and they were not, and on and on and on. For all the empowerment they are oddly incapable of taking command of the feminist voices swirling about in their heads. I would leave a pesky comment, but I don’t have a FaceBook account, because FaceBook is for women.
Sandberg also says that “A truly equal world would be one where women ran half our countries and companies and men ran half our homes”, obviously not having read Spearhead’s landmark A Man Wants a Wife, Not a “Co-Worker” and its resulting media firestorm. One wonders how long she will beat the equalism pulpit before flagging FaceBook shares drive her home for good.
Look to your favorite media outlets to provide impassioned essays on Sheryl’s new book in the coming weeks. I would leave a pesky comment on “The Atlantic”, but they banned me some time ago.
