I’m still occupied with working out a new parenting plan for my kids’ relocation to Vancouver, but hopefully I’ll have that out of the way within the week (trial is scheduled for early December). It is not an easy process, and takes up a significant amount of time and energy. Dealing with exes is often slow, painful and expensive. The costs of divorce to our nation’s productivity must be absolutely staggering.
However, I’m optimistic that we can work this out soon, and then get on with life. As for mediation, which I attended last week, I’ll tentatively recommend it. It’s much more effective than ordinary litigation, which too often is characterized by threats, brinksmanship and communication breakdown.
The main problem with mediation is the cost, which is prohibitive. However, if you can use it to cut future costs it’s probably worth it. I’d be happy to explain further, but it’s confidential at this point, so that will have to wait until the papers are signed.
