One of the stars of hit cable show “Teen Mom” was caught on video delivering a beatdown to a female rival, and now girls across the country are engaging in combat, sometimes prodded on by their own single mothers. In some cases, the girls have murdered their opponents.
Oddly, even as the evidence of female aggression and violence mounts ever higher, we are still treated to the same old song and dance about violence against women, the need for men to bow and scrape before these precious little angels, etc.
In a newsclip on MSNBC, reality TV is taken to task for allegedly giving these girls the idea. This may be true to some extent, but first we ought to ask who normalized this kind of behavior in the first place. Who was it that liberated teenage girls’ sexuality and encouraged female aggression in the name of “empowerment,” all the while demanding that females are never held to the same standards of responsibility as males?
