Pro-Male Anti-Feminist Tech recently posted a deleted blog post from “The Dilbert Blog”, the personal blog of Dilbert creator Scott Adams. Many of us are cubicle slaves in one corporatocracy or another, so we’ve been pretty well exposed to his work; his wit and dark sense of humour bring a degree of sanity to our lives. Here is what Adams has to say about MRAs:
According to my readers, examples of unfair treatment of men include many elements of the legal system, the military draft in some cases, the lower life expectancies of men, the higher suicide rates for men, circumcision, and the growing number of government agencies that are primarily for women.
…
Generally speaking, society discourages male behavior whereas female behavior is celebrated. Exceptions are the fields of sports, humor, and war. Men are allowed to do what they want in those areas.
So far so good. Do we have a famous erstwhile ally? Not quite.
Now I would like to speak directly to my male readers who feel unjustly treated by the widespread suppression of men’s rights:
Get over it, you bunch of pussies.
There we go. That’s what we expect from the mainstream. But wait…
The reality is that women are treated differently by society for exactly the same reason that children and the mentally handicapped are treated differently. It’s just easier this way for everyone. You don’t argue with a four-year old about why he shouldn’t eat candy for dinner. You don’t punch a mentally handicapped guy even if he punches you first. And you don’t argue when a women tells you she’s only making 80 cents to your dollar. It’s the path of least resistance. You save your energy for more important battles.
Interesting. He’s basically saying that women are like children throwing a temper tantrum, testing you. No wonder he deleted this blog post, but as an aside, I expect the feminist movement to collect his head by starting a boycott of Dilbert. Anyway, his advice to the giant shit test that is feminism is an odd mixture of shaming language and Game advice: the old “ignore and switch” tactic from Roissy. But is it the right advice?
He’s a pretty successful guy, after all.
Go ahead and read the rest of the post if you want, but here is the real lesson of Scott Adams.
From his book “Dilbert 2.0”:
I applied for Berkeley’s evening MBA program and was accepted. For the next three years, I worked days, took classes at night, and did homework during the cracks in my schedule.
… I expected greater opportunities for promotion. This time I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The media had recently discovered that my employer had virtually no diversity in management… my boss called me into her office. I was the most qualified candidate for the position, she explained, but because of pressure to be diverse there was no hope for another generic white male to get promoted any time soon.
Long story short, Adams quit and found a new job, but the scenario repeated itself at Adams’ next employer, Pacific Bell:
One day my boss called me into his office and informed that while I was indeed management material, the company had been getting a lot of bad press lately about the lack of diversity in management.
The rest is a familiar American Dream story – young man develops his passion for his work-drawn cartoons into a business by working nights, eventually quits work, and creates a strong brand and profitable business empire. Except with a twist.
Adams has, by the time he is 49, created a fortune for himself. He worked his ass off to do it too, first by putting himself through school, then doing an MBA while working, then when feminism took his job opportunities away, he created his own, cartooning nights and working days. His Dilbert empire must generate in the tens of millions in profits. He owns two restaurants. But then he got married. It is the first marriage for Adams, 49, and the second for Miles, 37, who has two children, a 6-year-old son and an 8-year-old daughter.
Ignore his blog post, for this is, indeed, the true lesson of Scott Adams. After a lifetime of working his ass off and getting pretty damn rich, the best he can do is a divorced single mom with two young children. A woman well past her prime who won’t likely give him a healthy child of his own. And this after two and a half decades of paying California’s confiscatory taxes; his money probably has supported an entire subsidized housing development full of single moms. If that isn’t an indictment of his “path of least resistance” philosophy, I don’t know what is.
So, Adams, you say ignore feminism and the way it screws men? Ha! I hope for his sake, Adams avoids a divorce, especially while the children are young. Otherwise she takes the house he’s building for her (forgot to mention that), the kids (that aren’t even his), and half of the net increase in his wealth from the moment they got married, plus generous child support payments (for the kids that aren’t even his). I wonder if he’ll be singing a different tune then.
