Back in January, Pierce Harlan wrote an interesting article featured here at The Spearhead on “Triumph of Civic Virtue,” a New York City statue that had been neglected for some time due to political correctness. The statue depicted virtue (i.e. manliness) crushing vice and corruption, which were portrayed as medusa-like monsters, beneath his manly feet. Evidently, women took offense that the monsters were female (all bad things must be portrayed as male, of course). Some feminists saw it here, and eventually the article must have made its way to the desk of Anthony Weiner, an up-and-coming NY politician with a “progressive” stance.

Shortly thereafter, Pierce found that Weiner had begun denouncing the statue as “sexist,” and in a publicity stunt drew up a Craigslist ad describing the statue as follows:

Own a (tasteless) piece of New York City history! Triumph of Civic Virtue created by sculptor Frederick MacMonnies – the artist behind iconic figures such as the Quadriga in Brooklyn’s Grand Army Plaza – is now up for sale for a limited time.

This controversial and offensive statue crudely depicts a young man with a sword triumphantly standing over the defeated bodies of two women. In 1941, then-Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia had the good sense to banish the figure from its initial location in City Hall Park.

Unfortunately, it ended up in Kew Gardens, where it remains to this day.

Now, community leaders want to see it go.

All proceeds from the sale of this sexist eyesore will benefit the city of New York. Shipping is not included.

Surely, Mr. Weiner must have felt that rather than a statue of a virtuous young man, women across the United States would prefer to view cam shots of his genitalia in various states of tumescence…

Sometimes, justice is sweet. I want to give Pierce Harlan credit and congratulate him for assisting in exposing Weiner for the repugnant creature he is. The irony of Weiner being caught in his own web of lies and vice after denouncing a statue making a statement against just these kinds of scummy politicians is almost as satisfying as it gets. Adding to that feeling, of course, is the fact that he made an indirect attack on the content featured here shortly before being so utterly disgraced.

As for the statue, I’ll propose a little change that should make everyone happy: carve little Weiner heads on the monsters under Civic Virtue’s feet.
