The National Women’s Law Center, previously mentioned here for their Title IX actions, has been conducting an online and email campaign to stop any cuts to federal spending on socialist programs such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, which they admit are overwhelmingly spent on women. Although they fudge the issue by noting that women’s average Social Security benefits are lower (this is because older women really did earn less than older men), they do admit that recipients are overwhelmingly female.
Here’s an excerpt from their action email:
Bottom line — these proposals would hurt women and their families. The reductions to Social Security would disproportionately hurt women, who depend more on income from Social Security than men do. And the changes to Medicare and Medicaid would place an extra burden on women, who are the majority of Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries and who already spend a higher percentage of their (already-lower) incomes on health care than men.
Ironically, the NWLC also agitates for higher pay for women and the displacement of men in the workforce, who have traditionally funded these programs. Women dominate the public sector, which means that their jobs are often already a drain on taxpayer funded programs, yet they propose to create even more expensive bureaucracies to coerce the private sector to fork over more money to women, which will inevitably cut into profit and therefore tax revenue.
If they have their way, men will eventually be so thoroughly squeezed by their financial obligations and artificially lower paychecks (companies are already paying men less to avoid discrimination lawsuits) that a large proportion of men will be reduced to abject poverty simply through taxes, child support and the rest. Although many women may feel that this will motivate the men to work harder and make more money, it doesn’t exactly work that way. There comes a point after which grinding men into the dirt ceases to pay off. This is the case for a number of reasons, including the fact that when people feel they have nothing to lose they will cheat, steal, hide income and generally become far more difficult to tax and control. They will also be far less likely to actually try to make income above board, as they know it will immediately be taken away from them for nothing in return. Even slaves need some currency to remain constructive – usually in the form of adequate food, shelter and clothing – but thanks to the efforts of feminists, many contemporary men can’t even count on that.
However, future time orientation doesn’t seem to be a strong suit for the female lawyers at the NWLC, so they keep chugging along demanding that men strip the shirts off their backs to keep women’s entitlements flowing in.
Although the current level of government spending is unsustainable, it remains to be seen whether cuts will be politically feasible. Given that women have achieved such political power in recent decades, it may prove impossible to trim the budget enough for a return to a functional economy, in which case we are looking at a very hard fall in the not-so-distant future.
