Let's start from the beginning. I am 18 years old, first time poster here. If I break any rules, let me know.
This sparked from a discussion we started having about the Front Page post, - the one with the picture of the woman changing her baby on the restaurant table - and I had mentioned that while I find this somewhat disgusting, it may be an issue stemming from the fact that many business owners have been removing, or not purchasing baby change tables for their businesses. I usually ask my mom for her opinion on things like this, because I do appreciate her input. After I had mentioned this, she said that she was happy about family/handicapped/single stall bathrooms alongside public 3 or 4 stall bathrooms, because they were good for small children who were with their parents of the opposite sex, (for example, my dad isn't going to take my little sister into the womans washroom because he is male, and wouldn't let her go in alone at 5 or 6 years old) and because she doesn't feel safe letting a young boy (like my brother and i, when we were younger) into the mens washroom alone, because most predators are male.
Now, I can't say this surprised me at all, as the general public view is that all men are abusive rapists, and that rape is only rape is there is a penis doing the deed. However, coming from my own mother who has a fairly liberal view of the world, it was a bit astounding. This is not to say that I don't believe there isn't a large number of male predators, but I feel that there are just as many (if not more) female predators, largely based on the fact that they are well under the rape/assault radar most of the time. First, I told her that I felt this was a vast media generalization. I also mentioned that regardless of gender, if a predator/rapist/child abductor was that intent on committing such crimes, they wouldn't let a little sign on a bathroom door stop them.
So, with that in mind I ask for your help, /r/MensRights. This conversation made me realize that while she is probably fairly incorrect, her statement must hold some weight and I came to the conclusion that I don't actually know what the ratio of male to female predators is, or really even as much as I'd like to know about the topic in general I ask of you dear gentlefolk, (I know there are some awesome ladies up in here too, holla) to provide for me if you can, a few sources with some information on male vs. female predators, and their respective frequencies.
Thanks in advance, much love as always.
