Roy Criner was tried and convicted of raping and murdering a 16-year-old girl in Texas. When DNA analysis was discovered the court of appeals denied him a retrial even though he was not a match.

The judge was definitely a first rate assclown. However, Criner was pardoned by Bush when he was Governor of Texas. So, eventually, he did get his freedom. Although that definitely doesn't excuse a single second of wrongful imprisonment and I'm sure his life is now infinitely more difficult because of it.

Feminist judge Sharon Keller refused to grant Roy Creiner a new trial because "absence of proof is not proof of absence".

If you want to be really afraid, consider this:

1) "In 1997, the semen found in Ogg was subjected to newly-available DNA testing; it was not Criner's."

2) "The cigarette butt found at the scene (and not adduced at trial) was subjected to DNA testing. The DNA on the cigarette was not a match for Criner, but it was a match for the semen found in Ogg."

!!! A cigarette found near the body of the victim had the same DNA as the semen inside the body -- still no new trial for the falsely convicted man !!!

Eventually, after Criner exhausted his appeals, Governor George W. Bush pardoned him (mostly because Texas became the laughing stock of the nation after a Frontline expose).
