The Smiling Reaper: A Story of Depression

Men's depression is the result of 1) poor diet, which you can thank big government's collusion with big agriculture for, 2) toxins in the environment and our drinking water, which again you can thank big government's collusion with big chemical for, 3) pharmaceuticals that actually make depression worse, which you can thank big government's collusion (FDA) with big pharma for, and most importantly, 4) that we live in an insane, stark world, where we no longer get to breathe in the fresh air of the wilderness, to work with our bare hands, to hunt, to build a fire, to swim in a river, to relish in the beauty of nature and know that we control our own lives. We are lost in a world that doesn't care about us, where we have very little power, that is cold and dead and sterile, where the "music" is auto-tuned and the politicians are all liars who don't give a shit about us, where we want to escape but have no easy route for it other than drugs and alcohol or living vicariously through books and the television.

So I'd say to you, you don't suffer from anxiety and depression, you suffer from living in a world not fit for human life. There is no place for many men in this world.

But if you like, you can keep telling yourself that everything is fine, that we are a healthy, strong civilization, that big government is our friend, that the federal government and big business couldn't possibly collude to fatten the pockets of the rich at your expense, that you don't long for the sights and smells and sounds of the wilderness, even while your body is telling you the opposite.

If you haven't yet, watch Human Planet and you'll see that despite the hardships people who live in the wild face, they are more free and happier than we who deem ourselves so advanced.
