My brother wants to record phone calls on his iPhone4. Is there a way to do this without the other parties knowledge?

Get a Google Voice number. Call recording only works on incoming calls... Dial your Google Voice number from another phone, friend's phone, etc. Hit '4' to record. Google will announce that call is being recorded. (You want this to happen before she's on the line.

Use your carrier's three way calling to add the ex to the call.

Your recording is saved as a MP3 AND there's a rough text transcript of the call you can search for words and text in the saved calls.

Best thing about it, no apps, no extra hardware, carrier restrictions, subscriptions, or required phone. Bonus points for using Skype app on Android to call your Google Voice number.

If she calls you, don't answer, just call her back immediately using the same method.

It could be done via the headset jack, I would imagine. I would also imagine someone, somewhere makes an adapter to do this.
