The study was done on 10 year olds in 1920s. The divorce rate back then was around 6% (vs current of 40+%). I think it is reasonable to say that divorce was a more traumatic event then because it was less socially acceptable and that it caused more financial problems for the family because only 20% of women were employed in 1920s. While it is a decent analysis of how things were, I wouldn't say it's a good predictor of how things are. My guess is that obesity and income disparity will be better mortality predictors for this generation.
