I know this is going to look like a gbb story, but I submitted it because of the line I used in the headline: girls and women who do these kinds of awful things to their babies are not being separated from them.

The girl in the story had a mental illness. Whether criminal charges are appropriate is a different question from whether the child needs to be separated from such a destructive situation as a mentally ill mother.

I think the doctor's decision to raise her voice here is entirely appropriate, given the situation, but I doubt that a male doctor would be able to get away with it, for fear of being called "violent" himself.
