I did extensive research on issue #3 when I was clerking for a judge. As you can imagine, there are many, many studies on the topic. However, best evidence suggests that divorce is damaging to children only if it is high conflict and/or if the children do not have equal time with both parents after the divorce. If the divorce is high conflict or the children are isolated from one parent after divorce, they are at higher risk for anxiety and depression.

Children who go through medium to low conflict divorces and whose parents have joint custody following the divorce look just like children who did not go through a divorce.

Edit: The study cited in 6 is old and is no longer considered best evidence. Further studies showed that children recover from low to medium conflict divorces as long as their parents have a joint parenting agreement. However, that is with removing the financial stress of divorce as a factor. Obviously, in reality divorce is usually financially stressful on a family, and if the children's financial situation significantly declines following divorce they will suffer the psychological consequences discussed in the study cited in number 6.
