If you allow the woman to participate in the raising of your child while she is using, then in the kid's eyes, you condone everything that she does to him / her. That is YOUR child too, and YOU are responsible for protecting YOUR child, WITH the mother if the mother acts responsibly, or FROM the mother if she does not.

do not fail your child. Your child needs you, and you are not (morally) allowed to abandon that child into the hands of an evil woman.

I say that this next part is true only if the woman is abusive to the kids and you've tried the legal routes to protect them: Stop giving a shit about the law - abandon the country if you have to. If the law doesn't protect your kid from an abusive mother, then the law is for shit, and permanent international relocation, with your child, is an option worth examining.

I'll be off soon to make a record of this in /mensrights/ because I know my haters will start yelling that I said it's okay to kidnap your kids. I don't think it's okay to do it unless and until the courts have refused, in your particular situation, to protect your children from an abusive parent. But Child protective Services in the US is failing children, the Courts are failing children, the Cops are not obligated to protect children, and Appeals Courts refuse to address Family Court decisions, so injustices are becoming the norm.

Generally, if you break the law to save kids, the lawmen (some cops, most sane juries, and most judges) will look kindly upon you in the US.

ETA: But don't fucking kidnap them.
