This is why whenever I hear issues of equality, I sum it up to roughly the same idea each time: "All sexes, skin tones, nationalities, backgrounds, ages, sexual orientations, and so on, should be equal. In essence, there should be no difference between us as human beings in regards to treatment, equality, justice, and opportunity."

We should stop inhibiting ourselves because of biased viewpoints. There's no logical reason to it. If such a principle of equality superseded all laws, I think we'd have less bullshit. Another factor in this is religion, due to religion's discriminating against other religions, and religious teachings inhibiting people [such as the Bible promoting men above women]. I doubt that will be a reality anytime soon, but it would be nice.

I don't see why trying to solve our problems is too idealistic. It obviously wasn't too idealistic or pointless to try according to the Forefathers of the United States [even though they were imperfect themselves.] I refuse to make excuses for not trying to solve our problems. It's a lame cope out without any backing. We can have equality between all if everyone just focused on it...

Cool read, but too vague and idealistic. He correctly points out the pitfall of his "level-headed" approach himself, but doesn't seem to realize the real implications of it:

I think it’s the human need to belong, honestly.

No one feels they belong to the group of "equality". Everyone feels stronger about some issues over others. Everyone feels they've been wronged in some way, and don't feel balance is a way to get justice.

Keep bashing people for following their gut feelings will only make them cling more fiercely to them.

To engage in extremist/rival/opposing views will always be the natural disposition of humans, and therefore a constant feature of reality. That can't be argued with, and these are the groups that achieve stuff, solely because they care so deeply about it.

The problem is when the state favors any particular view, granting it political/judicial privileges in public matters. Then, opposition becomes oppression.

If there were groups of men versus groups of women, all lobbying for attention against each other, but the state listened to both equally and conceded to their request fairly, it would be no problem. Eventually, both sides would come to realize they're both getting their way and learn to debate and compromise on their own time and terms.

The way things currently are, though, we have no other option but to be pungent about it.
