We are a podcast highlighting this very under-reported and under-supported demographic. While statistics vary, some saying 1 in 4 men, some saying 40%, it is clear that male victims of intimate partner abuse and violence are many and growing under the pressure and isolation that COVID has wrought on families. Coercive control and parent alienation syndrome are also on the rise, with fathers being effectively erased in a court system that still favors females. In the UK, coercive control is a crime punishable by up to 5 years in jail. In the USA, it is merely a reason for a restraining order, but that's a start. The stigma, stereotyping, and discrimination surrounding domestic abuse contributes to a lopsided belief that only women are abused, and every time they say so, they are believed. Males are often mocked, disbelieved, and ridiculed if they report their abuse which causes a silent void where abuse goes unchecked. We need more public awareness of these issues and I would welcome any discussion or insight on the matter.
