So last week this photo caused fury...hundreds of homeless forced to stand in the freezing cold at night, just to eat. They must have been so hungry that they were willing to stand in such cold weather for such a long time. Which means they are starving.

But doesn't the UK have a social safety net?

MRAs have long known the phenomenon in the UK council system where homeless men are routinely denied access to shelter and housing simply for being men.

I've just found this report from Shelter Scotland, where they discovered that the Glasgow county illegally denied services to homeless people- mostly men- in a system of "gatekeeping"

On the gatekeeping

Ensuring those that need it can swiftly access homelessness services, including temporary homeless accommodation, is a consistent and pressing issue for Shelter Scotland. Our services across Scotland deal with approximately 25 cases per month where an individual seeks our advice having been turned away from a local authority’s homeless services and denied their legal right to support. This practice is known as “gatekeeping” and it is resulting in a growing number of people resorting to rough sleeping, sofa surfing, returning to situations where they are potentially at risk of violence, and other forms of insecure accommodation

Now, here is the part about men being mostly affected:

Glasgow City Council were responsible for 109 of the 370 gatekeeping cases recorded, and these are broadly evenly split between Section 28 and Section 29 cases. Nearly three quarters of Glasgow cases were single men, and nearly 70% of cases had a mental or physical health issue, or both

That's absolutely disgusting. And consider that story of the homeless men waiting in the cold- how of the people turned away froze to death? Or died since? Read the article, some already have- is Glasgow council responsible for their deaths? If they knowingly and illegally turned away someone who needed aid, out of some biased, malicious bigotry, could that be considered murder? If not legally, than morally?
