To each their own, but if I'm going to request any kind of life or dating coaching (and especially if you're spending big money on a coach, some charging in the thousands), I am going to make sure that person has AT LEAST taken the time to get certified or credentialed through a professional coaching organization. Don't you think you should trust this person to provide you quality advice?

Right off the bat, when I have contacted coaches and pretend to be a customer, 100% of the PUA/dating coaches have said they have no formal training in any kind of core competencies and code of ethics (some darkly joking about how getting hookups with ethics is too hard - yeah, no shit Sherlock, coercive control over someone is bad mmkay). This should be a red flag, guys. Where did they learn their material? How do you know this person is legit and not? How do you know these "coaching" programs are safe for not only yourself, but also the person you're using them on? What assurances do they offer you for that? Do they teach you what to do when your date has PTSD and gets accidentally triggered because you were taught to misuse tactics that typically require more in-depth training?

If your "coach" shows you videos or training material of him looking like an absolute drunken idiot, pushing you to aggressively encroach on the boundaries of your date (especially if they're teaching you to push though several 'no' in words/actions/body language), chasing your date, or any of these other badly-behaved or trauma-triggering tactics, you should be taking pause long enough to really assess if these behaviors and dings to your reputation is really worth it.

Most are teaching unethical NLP tactics as well, which can really negatively impact someone's life. NLP can be used to influence, and yes in the wrong hands you might do things that you did not think you would do (or vice versa) at someone's behest that may not be honest about their intentions. I recommend reading the entire article, but at least read the "How exactly does this thing work?" part to review the dangers of misusing something that people are recommended to get a certification training done to safely use it. It’s conditioning, plain and simple, but absolutely gets misused by some of these "coaches".

These are just a few thoughts regarding this topic and fueled by the current civil war within the PUA/coaching community. Be careful who you hire, guys. This is your reputation and safety that's on the line.
