So there this is this guy I've met on a dating app and I've been talking to every day since almost 2 months (both texting and calls). We weren't able to meet because of the lockdown situation in our country, the distance and our personal constraints, and I agree that this thing we have is very weird since we still didn't meet, but there was no way for us to do so and we'll probably have to wait for anything from a month to a few months to be able to meet. He's always been very sweet and supportive, we helped each other reach our goals (studies and health related, etc), offered each other emotional support and a space to rant or share our negative feelings, etc. We talk about pretty much everything and although we laugh a lot we've also had some deep talks. We watched movies/shows together, shared our favorite music, books, stories about our lives, you name it. He seemed to be pretty mature and in touch with his emotions, and that's something I care a lot about, so that's probably one of the main reasons why I warmed up to him and probably let down my guard too. One example of this is him talking about anxiety-related issues he's facing and acknowledging that he needs to see a therapist for that. He also cares about most issues I care about, and respects my opinions even when we disagree over something. Now I wonder if all of that is part of his 'strategy' to get me, and whether he's been shaping his behavior in such a way that he would correspond to things I like/dislike.

Last week he told me that he liked me already, and although I tried to tone it down with the fact that we still didn't meet in person he insisted that he's already feeling a connection. Anyway it was all going well until he brought it up last night again, during a late-night talk. Again I shared my concern about us maybe not knowing the real versions of each others, and that things could change if we met in person, but he reassured me that on his end he knows that the way he feels about me wouldn't change, but if it does for me then he would understand that and not try to force things, and we would just go our separate ways. I feel like I like him too, and I value our connection. He also mentioned that what he liked about our connection is that it goes beyond the usual "fun and sex" that's at the core of most relationships, and that he feels like we actually have the emotional maturity to eventually be there for each other and help each other through difficult times. He also said that this has never happened to him with a girl before, and that he feels like I'm helping him become a better man. Honestly that's when I started to have doubts, because that sure sounds like bs talk, although we are indeed encouraging each other to adopt healthy habits, go back to studying and so on, which I guess he was referring to. I laughed and told him it sounded too good to be true, but he insisted that he was speaking his mind.

At one point he talked about how much he wished we could be together now, and well, long story short it turned into sexy talk at one point, during which he described at length what he wished he could do with me (basically in a soft-core smut fashion). I'm not really a sexual person, but I was getting hints that he was. It is true that we talked about such topics before, but in a 'general knowledge' manner, or to discuss an issue such as the complexity of female pleasure, not about ourselves, although he sometimes shared some examples from his own experience. We've obviously been having quite a bit of flirting going on before that, but it never got to that point. I was too weak/lost in it to stop him (although I pretended to have fallen asleep by the end of it) and now I'm seriously having second thoughts about it. I'm thinking "is that all there was to it? was it all for that? is that how he sees me?". Am I crazy for feeling that it was disrespectful to my value?

Do you think all that behavior is LVM bs? Do you think I should acknowledge the red flag and just move on or try to have a discussion about it with him? I know I probably sound stupid but I'm really confused as to what's valid and what's not because I've never been in such a situation and truth be told I don't have an extensive dating experience. My anxiety doesn't help either because I tend to overthink things. I also have a tendency for self-sabotage that impacts my relationships too, and I usually end up quickly losing interest for a man or cutting him off because of that. I've just discovered this community and now I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Unfortunately I already feel invested in the connection we had, and it sure hurts a lot, although I know I'm just as much to blame for it because I let it happen. I know that I'm currently in a period of weakness: dealing with underlying depression and anxiety, work and family related issues, the lockdown ... and that's why I wonder if I'm being emotionally manipulated and I'm being in denial about it.
