Hitchens is by far more widely read. His recall was also staggering. Milo is young, very smart, but young. And sometimes it shows. Joe Rogan, for example tore Milo apart about his belief that Judeo-Christianity is superior to other religions. It was a classic case of Joe using bait-questions. Hitchens made similar statements about religion. The difference is that if Joe tried that on Hitchens, he would have gotten a first-class education on Christianity, Islam, Judaism and then finally why Judeo-Christianity is superior to other religions. Hitchens would have also made him look like a kid in need of Sunday school. Milo's a smart kid, but he's a bit blinded by the shimmer of his own bling. I'd love to see him step up, but he will need to calm down, read UP and alight from Big Al's Big Gay Bus Ride.

Milo is the man, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Edit for substance: I have no reason to doubt Milo's intelligence or ability, and I very much respect and value what he's doing. Even so, I don't think he has demonstrated the intellect or communication skills of someone on Hitchens' level. Honestly, I think Hitchens is the kind of mind that comes along maybe a handful of times in a generation. Maybe Milo will turn out to be at that level, I just don't think there's reason to believe that quite yet.

In time, Milo might reach Hitchens level. Hitchens was 62 when he died.

Hitchens was more well-read than Milo, but that might be a product of the times in which they lived. Hitchens was raised in a much more literate time.

Hitchens attacked from the Left, and Milo attacks from the Right. However, Hitchens came of age in an era when the Right controlled the culture, while Milo came of age in an era when the Left controls the culture.

Both of them are brilliant debaters, incredibly quick and witty. I think Milo needs to find himself a little more, but that will come with age and experience. I also think Milo needs to attack other cultural shibboleths aside from just Feminism, but again this will come with time.

I think Milo has the tools, the wit, the charm, the intelligence to be a major public intellectual at the caliber of Hitchens, but it's going to take some work. Let's see if Milo is up to the challenge.
