I get what you're saying. In my case before I went into full beta mode I was known by everyone in the small province I live in so regardless of city I'm screwed for starting fresh. However moving to a new country or province would work.

Take it from me, I've lived in 6 cities in all corners of the United States since graduating college 5 years ago, the nature of my industry means I move a lot.

I used to always think my problems were because of the city I lived in, and not because of me, so whenever I'd get a new job or promotion and would be moving to a new city I would get all excited and think all my problems would be fixed just by moving. Then I'd move to a new city and after a couple of weeks realize it wasnt where I lived, but it was me.

It's nice to get a fresh start, sure, but until you fix YOU, the same issues will follow you wherever you go.

I currently live in Seattle, which I hate, but I have done more self improvement here than anywhere else. I think its because I am out of my element and comfort zone here. If you are in your comfort zone, you get content, and less likely to improve.

I understand Japan is on your bucket list, but make it a vacation, not a place to live. I remember my high school days, when all the anime/video game obsessed weaboo nerds always would talk about how Japan is better than every other country and their desire to move there some day. If its a place you want to live because you like anime and japanese culture and video games and japanese women, you are doing it for the wrong reasons.
