I found this article and this YouTube video in my email recently. I myself am a member of the Knights of Columbus, which is a Catholic Fraternal Organization that mainly has councils in Catholic churches throughout the US and Canada mostly. They do have councils in other countries like Mexico, The Philippines, Poland, South Korea, and in various island nations in the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean.

Anyways, I got an email from our weekly newsletters and there was an article about Authentic masculinity, and I caught my interest and there was YouTube video that covered the topic a year ago. Now I understand a lot of you here are not very religious and probably have some strong opinions about the Catholic Church and Christianity, so I want to advise you that the video and article are very religious. But with that said there are some qualities of masculinity that the video covers that I think can go beyond any church or religion and to people who aren’t religious in general.

One of the interesting things the video and to some extent the article mention, how a modern society is becoming more fatherless and how many boys have no positive male role models. I know that’s been a talking point among many Male Advocates that I’m happy to see that even the Catholic Church in the United States acknowledges that. Also, the fact that is mentions how things they call macho masculinity or something like that, which Feminist may call Toxic Masculinity, can be channeled for good. There is a mention that “power and aggression can be channeled into vigilance and initiative in protecting his family from anything that might harm or threaten them.”

Overall, this idea of Authentic Masculinity seems interesting. I like because it doesn’t treat Masculinity as something negative which I know a lot of Feminists, unknowingly sometimes, tend to do. I personally feel this is perhaps a step in the right direction in talking Masculinity in a good way.
