Feminism is constantly talking about how abortion is about reproductive freedom, but fail to advocate for, and often work against, male reproductive freedom despite claims that feminism is for men too. How so? child support.
Feminists advocate for a woman to be able to terminate a pregnancy that is inconvenient to her without any restriction. However, they do not advocate to change a system that forces men to work for 18+ years for a child he didn't want, or wants but cannot see.
I did some calculations: from the moment of conception to the moment of birth, a woman will be pregnant for 6048 hours if she is pregnant for a full 9 months. Now hen we take into consideration that for a bit of time after conception, the pregnancy doesn't really impact her, and the time she spends truly impacted by pregnancy is a little less that 6000 hours. There are also ways to give up a child after birth. Yet, feminists say that it is evil to have a woman spend that time pregnant if she does not want the child.
Now lets assume that a man works 40 hours a week. He is ordered to pay a 5th (20%) of his income for 18 years to the mother of a child he does not want. Thats 8 hours a week he is basically working for the mother by force of the government. Thats 6912 in total. Over 1000 hours more than feminists say is junjust to force a woman to pay for her child. And that 20% is generous. I heard stories of up to a 3rd of income being taken for child support. that's 13.2 hours a week, 11404.8 hours over 18 years. Nearly 5,500 more than what feminists say is reprehensible to have an unwilling mother spend on a child. Lets not forget the fact that you dot even have to be the biological father to beforced to do this either.
Feminists say it is reprehensible to have an unwilling mother spend 6000 hours on a child, but are silent, or even advocate for, unwilling fathers to be forced to spend 6912-11404.8 hours on a child he doesnt want, or is not even his. Yet, they have the audacity to claim that feminism is for men too.
I recommend you check out Purple Heart's Final Beat a short film about the atrocity of child support and parental alienation that is all too common.
