Great sum up

[–]ChrissaTodd 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I will say the only one I think needs to be taken off is "they don't have children" I am not really a feminist but I have figured out I wouldn't be great at raising kids,

and instead of ignoring that and bringing a kid in this world and making them miserable anyway

I could just not have kids, I like kids fine sure so if you try to say this just because I hate kids which i have gotten before, then if i did hate kids thank god i don't want them right? :P

it's not an evil thing to not want kids, not everyone wants kids, this isn't a feminist thing, this me being self aware. I have autism i have a hard time with myself.

Not everyone is a "kid person" or cut out to be parents so your point is well-taken.

Interestingly after college I went to work for a marketing firm and traveled extensively around the country weeks at a time and loving life! Young, good money, nice hotels! Then I met a nice girl and subsequently she got pregnant! Not wanting to give up my job we considered abortion but I figured this was something new for me why not try it! Best thing that ever happened to me! I never imagined how much fun it could be kids are so uninhibited. I wasn’t ready for it! My daughter would come down to sit with me at night while I worked I would be sitting there totally consumed with my job when she would say something only a five yr old would think of and it was like a slap upside the head back to reality! They make it look so simple! I quit my job and went to work for a local bank and never had I made a better decision! Nothing to me was more fun than my two kids!

Glad to hear it. Yes, kids are a joy to have and raise. Thankfully, it sounds like the mother didn't use them against you as pawns in family court for higher mom support, prevent visitation, alienate them from you, etc.

Kudos to your awareness of self. There's nothing wrong with feeling you'd be a poor parent and it's infinitely more respectable that you don't add more angry undeveloped people to the world. SINCERELY THANK YOU. I wish a lot more people could think this way too.

[–]ChrissaTodd 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I get that there is a natural thing to wanna procreate, so i get the reason people get mad, but yeah I wish that was the mindset of people,

because when i used to say i didn't want kids as i said i used to get accused of hating them, and i don't,

but that is such a weird thing to guilt me with, because if i did hate kids then Idk why these people would want me to have kids, if i "hated" them.

It's weird logic. I learned that not everyone including me in this is just not fit to have kids.

I give a lot of respect to people who can parent and can adapt once having kids. Because from what i hear and see it's hard.

[–]NomadSeal 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

People assume. YOU say I don't want kids and you're saying "I don't feel I'd be a consistent parent. I feel I'd get angry and make things worse. I don't think I'll have the finances to provide a stable life which makes me worry EVEN MORE about those other reasons." They hear "I don't want kids cause I hate them/don't want to be responsible".

Having kids IS hard. And it's stressful. And it's sometimes soul crushing because you don't get to be an individual most of the times. You're almost just on standby, being yourself for a few minutes then it's time to focus on baby. I had a friend have a baby, an avid video gamer. He told me at one point he was so tired of holding his daughter. That's all she wanted. To be held. With both hands. Looking at you. So he could do nothing but stare at this baby who'd spittle and burp and vomit at his face for several hours a day, unable to game, unable to eat his meals. If he put her down she'd shriek bloody murder till she was gasping and sputtering for air. At least than a year. He said she only got more demanding of his time as she got older till about four.

It's a sacrifice at times too, obviously. It's not for everyone and yeah, anyone who wants to guilt you should just be asked. "You gonna watch my kid/kids so I can go out now and then? You gonna pay for baby stuff? You gonna help at all? Okay. Unless you want to contribute to at the very least 18 years of funding a child you should keep your opinions to yourself."

Most of the time I hear about this it's either A) family members wanting babies. (They can help pay then, they're related). B) people who had kids without planning or meaning to, probably did a poor job of it due to stressors and now their kid has issues to work out. Yay. C) People who don't have kids and have no idea what goes into having one so should def go sit quietly in the back and just listen till they have a clue.

yeah i for sure have better luck with guinea pigs, I just have to clean their cage and keep them fed daily, and they are fine, and definitely not the level i'd have to be at with kids where the kid would take a lot more attention.

So kudos to your friend for that because that wouldn't be fun, I feel for the baby of course but I get the frustration after a while.

And I am kind of a high strung person got it from my dad so the getting angry thing is definitely a concern especially with my autism like I am better now then when i was younger, but mentally things are still hard.

I've also been saying i haven't wanted kids since i was 13 and i am 28 now and i haven't changed my mind,

maybe my brother will have kids one day i think he probably would be better at that then I then i can be an aunt, but yeah i don't have that baby fever type feeling ever. So I am glad I am self aware in that sense.

Also my parents atleast have been pretty good with the fact that i don't want kids my mom sees my situation as unique given i have autism but she respects it.

and yeah people tend to not get it, but I hope the best for people out there who do have kids and are going through that stuff. cause i couldn't do it, so i respect it.

Loved this

[–]PersephoneBBY 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I agree with this heavily. Idk how many times I’ve said “I’m not made for the corporate world” and everyone says “that’s not possible, you have to have a career to survive. Yknow what I want? To be a career housewife. I want a large family, I want to homeschool my kids, I want to take them to church, I want to teach them to not be nasty sluts and disgusting people, I want to cook and clean and take care of my husband and family. Why can’t some people understand that the feminist idea of “freedom” is absolutely miserable to people like me?

[–]NoMarriageNoKids[S] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Feminism has taught women that to be a domestic " housewife" is oppressive and shameful.

[–]PersephoneBBY 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes, and it’s sad. Because I feel more empowered when I am cooking and cleaning and such than any job I’ve ever had. But no, thanks to modern feminism I now am expected to be a #bossbabe and climb the corporate ladder.

A man will never love you more than when you're loving him.

[–]PersephoneBBY 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Amen to that and to that I am thankful

[–]Busy-Ad5287 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is absolutely true. If more women would read this then they would understand what they're doing wrong.

They are oblivious. It's like hen you have BO and don't know it. But, everyone around you does.
