Humans are a tribal species and like most tribes, after a certain population size, hierarchy is preferred by the tribe to enforce social order and progress. There may be a loosely defined inter-tribe hierarchy as well, which makes them compete against one another, thereby, reinforcing the competitive edge/characteristics or to develop new ones through observation.

This reflects in the mate selection criteria as well. Those that are higher up in the social order (valuable) are preferred as mates, thereby ensuring that the progeny has those advantages and the acceptance of higher status ensures a better survival chance within the tribe. Of many characteristics, with respect to mating, appearance and value (by birth, by wealth, by skill, etc) are two which affect a member's place within the hierarchy and as a consequence, as empirical evidence suggests, also reflects in mate selection criteria, friend selection criteria and so forth.

As a competitive species for survival and progress at individual and species level, it is a given that individual members try their best to not go below their current social status at the very least. There is a strict preference to either maintain or ascend the ladder. This often translates to jealousy and resentment towards those members of higher social status, who have access to most resources (human or otherwise) and opportunities.

Often, many characteristics are immutable. Such as birth into a family of higher social order with prevailing laws imposed by society itself such as inheritance which results in a differential in social order by default for such individuals. Financial inheritance is enforced by the society itself (indirectly, since government and accepted laws are only enforceable when they exercise enough power to dominate the members of the society). However, physical characteristics are inherited naturally and hence do not need an imposing authority, due to genetics. The presence of an imposing authority which is tolerated by the people for sustenance of prevailing order without disruptive transitions, which are destructive for the members is what makes inheritance of social status by virtue of money/race/caste as natural as physical characteristics.

Empirical evidence suggests that there is resentment towards those with physical characteristics that aid in acquiring a more valuable mate. This lessens the ability to acquire mate for a member with physical characteristics of lower value and in some cases results in inability to acquire a mate. As stated earlier, the purpose is to propagate and prosper the social status. Other characteristics like skill, purchasing power also affect this.

This inability to propagate and prosper at a mating level is termed as inclery (no means to propagate due to no mate). At a purchasing power level, this would translate to something akin to financial incelry. Many manifestations of inclery phenomenon are observed at all levels where power is manifested. Power here refers to the ability to affect social orders in any way as desired by the body that exercises the power.

Hence, those of low purchasing power are just financial incels.
