For those who aren’t familiar, hypergamy is where women are selective among choosing a mate. In todays dating market, women only consider dating the top 10% of men while the other 90% miss out.
What ratio of women to men would we need to balance out hypergamy?
In theory you would need need 10 times more females, since women only date the top 10%. That would mean for every 10 women you’d only have 1 man.
But the question is would the women then lose their hypergamy and be dating 100% of men? Or would they simply just go without, remain single and never reproduce?
It would be very interesting to see this in an experiment in some kind of isolated community where such a gender ratio exists.
