This is a long post, so I'm sorry! I need to vent. He's just out of hospital after having a TIA. He's spent the last 20 years living on energy drinks and cheap vodka so it's not exactly unexpected. We've been divorced for a year, but we left 4 years ago. The emotional abuse was just about beginning and there was red flags that I ignored (punching walls, looming etc). Our children were born within 10 months of one another, and he refused to do anything but the bare minimum and was proud of never doing anything he didn't want to, even for his children. The children have 2 big memories of time with him - a holiday in Wales and my son's birthday. Once. By the end I'd had 4 jobs (he worked nights and refused to change it, so flexibility was barely possible), the police had been called regards to him yelling so loudly at them that the people across the road called them, thankfully. He would be unbearable to everyone if the slightest noise was made, which meant that whenever I had finished my job I'd go home and immediately have to leave the house with them, and not come back in for at least 7 hours. The physical abuse began about a year before I left. The financial abuse meant my credit rating was absolutely screwed, I've had to start again. Literally. Council flat, the works. Our son was diagnosed ASD by age 2, and the complete lack of stability made life miserable. After I left he was horrific, telling people I took his children away from him. I left the house, with the children and started again entirely. He's still upset because I took the fridge and kids beds. I'm also still on the deeds of the house. I'm still angry with him for taking away the happy years I should have had with my children. I hate him for it. But for some reason, I'm struggling with this news. He's only 46, and he had an "unexplained event" last year too. Usually TIA's carry on causing damage over time. He's alone in a horrible dirty house (seriously, it stinks. He's a hoarder) and I'm now living in the same council flat but it's clean, it's warm, it's carpeted now, and I'm now with a lovely man who actually loves me and doesn't treat us all like a hinderance. But I don't quite know how to feel about the whole thing.

TLDR; My ex abused me and made myself and our children miserable for years. Now we're doing well and he's having heart issues and mini strokes. I don't quite know how to feel about it all.
