This is a lecture by psychologist Donald Dutton, author of books like The Batterer, The Abusive Personality and Rethinking Domestic Violence, as well as numerous research papers on IPV, giving an overview on what the research actually says about domestic violence. He challenges the notion that it is a 'gendered crime' by showing data that strongly supports it is most often a bilateral dynamic with both partners exhibitng problem behaviour. He also shows that male & female rates of unilateral abuse are much closer than the mainstream is told, and that unilateral 'wife beating' is actually quite rare

Dutton was a great researcher (he's retired now) and had a big impact on how I think about intimate violence & abuse. It's a shame his important research into perpetration isn't more widely known.
