I have been having some relationship problems lately and had posted on the relationship subreddit for advice yesterday.

I was getting quite a few responses (with some being good advices) when suddenly out of nowhere a random Redditor falsely accused me of being a pedo and claimed that I have made the same post about a 16 yo gf (my post was about my 32 yo SO). In no time a bunch of people piled onto it and my post was eventually taken off by the mods.

I don’t even know this person and I don’t think we have ever crossed paths before. What motivates people to fabricate lies like this?

I am still shocked by this turn of events. I shudder to think what would happen if this happened in real life.

I have reported that specific comment to the mods, but should I have done something different? Should I have engaged on the comment thread making this absurd claim?

What’s the best way to deal with something like this?

TL;DR: I was falsely accused on Reddit by a random stranger and am a little shook. Asking for help on how to cope.
