Growing up, my mom would throw a tizzy fit every night until my dad came up and made me go to bed. To this day, i'll call her and she'll get emotional at me. I find myself defaulting my speech to supplication. I get overly energetic in how I respond, revealing that her emotion affects me. My normal speaking voice is ultra beta/supplicating probably for this reason.

Any good posts on this. How does one break out of it?

And I'm noticing some subtle status jockeying tactics in men too. The big ones are men with status over me will display and reinforce the status differntial by interrupting me, making commands, holding my listening by talking at absurd lengths or having absurd pauses, and using repetition (see the NerdWriter video on Trump). I find this dismantles my self-confidence very effectively.

Thoughts on any of this. Is the defense just cold-approach to build confidence?
