In my country some convicted murderer killed his wife and in the news they called it "yet another femicide", and lots of women's rights group and activists pushed the agenda to rise the any punishment which is called femicide.
I asked: "Guys, isn't this too much? We are talking about the killer who already killed a person (male) once, do we really need to get a reason why he killed again? If femicide is killing because you hate women, how do we know he hated all women, and he did only had problems with this person? "
I got enormous backlash just for asking this, people attacked me, men and women, in one moment I almost panicked about my privacy. I know privacy is guaranteed on Reddit, but it was just hateful post after another. It was mostly senseless, about I dont know meaning of femicide, I am part of the patriarchy, men shamed me because this is really big taboo here. Some people said that if I want to propose same punishment for killing women, why dont I say we have to propose same punishment for killing children. It was all very uncomfortable. I needed to shut down that post.
My country is one small country in Europe, riding on the waves something was hype in USA and west five years ago. There are people o tv saying "feminism is finally awakening", like it didnt been awoken 50 years or more ago.
The story about femicides here is this: six months ago, in some small town some person killed his wife's lover, and after that his wife. Newspapers were all: femicide, we need to protect women, we need to strengthen ever family law biased on women, etc. And they did. I was wondering at that time, is this is femicide, why did he killed men too? But men was not even mentioned, everything turned out around killing of the women.
And now this. Person who killed his wife, the after that himself is a mysoginist. But the guy already killed one person 20 years ago, nobody called him androgynist?
Very taboo questions in my country where any family violence is extremely frowned upon, especially in small communities, since always. People were cast out if there was only even a small rumor about he raising his hand on wife.
Now laws are going to be be so strong that when an women say there was a family violence, true or not true, any men can go to prison for 30 days.
I mean arent this legimitate questions? Did I opened Pandora's Box?
there doesn't seem to be anything here
