After having the very tightly cropped and edited text messages between myself and several others return back to me from concerned friends way too many times, I realized that this trickery is becoming a dangerous trend within Red Pill/PUA circles. Not only is it dangerous for the person it's being used on, but it's dangerous for the actual victims' reputation, livelihood, and even safety or life if the tricked buddy feels the need to avenge his friend, the fake 'victim' (this process is called triangulation).
My very successful career was cancelled this way during Gamergate (tightly cropped out-of-context edit of much larger messages and emails). At the time, I was not aware that people even did this, but unfortunately I learned later I fell victim to a known public reputation smearing scam that has sadly now made its way into the dating world as a recurring trend. The coach has since been convicted of falsifying evidence, fraud, and libel among other things, but the trend has not died. Raising awareness of this so-called "Red Pill" 'technique' is vital.
This only serves to provide untrained people confirmation bias that mental illness and personality disorders are more prevalent than they actually are, significantly damaging relationships and the lives of the ones that react to this 'technique' that's being taught. After being assaulted after a very enraged person received a fake copy of a transcript between myself and another person who faked being my victim, I started saving nearly everything as my own cope to deal with how I had been not only set up, but horrifically punished from the actual abuser's fraud.
I could not foresee how invaluable this is until years later when it started to become a trend just in my own life. In the fake transcript, I was being portrayed very differently than how I habitually am. A one off angry outburst in reaction to what the other person did, like cheating or hitting you, or even finding out about the fake texts, does not indicate mental instability, but the assailant can certainly make it look that way to his buddies if he's not telling the entire story. Anger is a valid emotion and does not mean the person is mentally unwell or has a disordered personality.
Note that the assailant will never be willing to submit this evidence to the authorities (because false reporting and falsifying evidence is a crime in many areas). In 100% of my cases, it was only used to smear my reputation publically, but then I was told I was being unreasonable when I persisted and even offered to turn myself in using their own "evidence" of my so-called "abusive" behaviours. This has now happened to me personally 11 times in only 6 years and we're about to turn in more people for the damages.
I do not like turning people in, but it's being taught as a dangerous strategy. It's illegal in many areas and can get you in even more trouble if it needs to be used it in court to prove your habitual fraudulent behaviour. Please learn to protect yourself from these kinds of things. Some people are very good at making others look like terrible people and truly believe they won't get caught until they do. Then it's game over. It's not worth it.

Why Do Assailants Utilize Reactive Abuse?
Abusers rely on reactive abuse because it gives them “proof” that the victim is unstable, mentally ill, or delusional. Abusers may hold these reactions against an abused person indefinitely, possibly bringing up specific instances of self defense years after the event occurred.
A reaction to abuse might even be used by an assailant to go to police and file their own protective orders against a victim. It is a method of manipulation that attempts to make an abused person feel responsible for acts of violence.
The longer this shifting of blame occurs, the longer a victim may experience feelings of shame, guilt, or blame for reactive outbursts to continued abuse. Also, this tactic forces a victim of violence to focus on their own response to the event rather than the event itself.
This can give an oppressor the ability to continue their abuse without repercussion.
