Something I've come to realize over the first week of college as I try to break out of my shell is that I'm a terrible conversationalist. I have no problem doing what TRP says and talking to everyone. I've been introducing myself and trying to talk to people everywhere I go, and even though it has only been 7 days, I feel like my conversation skills still aren't improving at all. Most of what I can contribute is short comments or rephrasing what someone else just said in an attempt to indicate understanding. And when I try to keep the conversation going I feel like I'm in interview mode, but I also can't read people well enough to "make statements, don't ask questions". So if just talking to people isn't doing the trick, what can I do to become a more interesting conversationalist?
