I don't know the meme, but the idea resonates with me.

Men in locker rooms are suspected of talking about women in degrading terms. But my experience of locker rooms is that the number 1 topic of conversation is ..... sports.

Men prefer to talk about things rather than relationships. You can say that if you frame it as male inferiority - men having worse people skills, leaving the emotional labor to women.

Men don't really like to complain to their friends about their wives/girlfriends. The feel it to be indiscreet, disrespectful to their partners, and also to reflect badly on themselves - on their own ability to attract an agreeable woman or to manage a relationship. You can say that if you frame it as men being emotionally illiterate, or as the fragile male ego.

Men tend to have more arms-length relationships with other men than women do with women. They don't like oversharing. Male sociability tends to be about establishing civil but not-too-close channels of communication with a broad range of other men who you don't necessarily like but you have to work with. Female sociability tends to be about more intense and intimate close friendships.

Based on the above, is it in men's or in women's spaces that there's going to be indiscreet discussion about sex? And when feminists are anxious about what men talk about in locker rooms, are they projecting?

By definition I don't have direct experience of what happens in all-female spaces, so I can only go on hints that female acquaintances have dropped and on gossip that has leaked out of female spaces. Actually no, not hints: female acquaintances have told me straight out that women discuss details of sex and their intimate partners, they've framed it explicitly as girl power, as superior female community-building skills, and when me and other men have revealed their disgust or disapproval, it's taken that we're threatened by strong women etc.

A woman I lived with used to discuss our personal troubles with her girlfriends. Whenever I’d see these girlfriends, I was uncomfortable because I knew my wife had told them all sorts of intimate things.

I mentioned this to my friend Elaine, a corporate psychological consultant. I said I felt betrayed by the fact that my girlfriend went outside our relationship in this way. I said in my experience, men didn’t discuss their relationships in that sort of detail with other men.
