Military or Degree ?

Opinon based question gets an opinion based answer.

Personally I joined the military (USAF) to get a leg up. What I mean by that is it gave me the discipline to get shit done. Gave me a bunch of benefits to include after me getting out I'm still making money from it, as well as a way to get college education with the Post 9/11. Helped me see the world and how truly small it is and helped break my view of how things "should be".

I've traveled around the globe countless times and I'm an American living in Japan now which is a great playing field. Now that I'm out after serving 6 (still have a year of inactivity) I'm making close to 6 figures a year at the age of 25 with no formal college degree. Not sure how exactly the RAF works but I did do an OPS with them downrange and by god do they love their tea and chocolates.

Very tough man, I was in the same boat. Mom forced me to go to college, she applied for me and did every step of the process. I dragged my heels and visited recruiters secretly but I was too "good boy" to disobey my Mom.

She often tells me she wonders if she did the right thing by forcing me into college. I got a STEM degree which I've never used. I could have got my current job with a Poli Sci degree. What's truly important is HAVING A DEGREE. I always tell her I appreciate her decisions because I wasn't doing SHIT, and she had to force me into something.

I can tell you, no matter which way you go, you're going to develop a life and find your passion and purpose. I can also tell you that you're going to hate forcing yourself down a path where you don't want to go down.

Why do you want to go to the military? Can't you get a private apprenticeship? Lots of people sign up for the military because of the BENEFITS, but the truth is you can get sent to war. You must consider this.

Total disclosure, I still dream about being in the military sometimes.

If you have a brain and free mind, you'll hate your life in the military. And you cant get out for 8 years. 4 active, 4 reserve (in the US military at least). You get a bunch of rights taken away, married to the government, and become legal cannon fodder. Fuck that.
