I keep hearing about this "patriarchy" and that it benefits men and oppresses women. I personally don't think women are 'oppressed' in society today. They may face social issues but to say "oppressed", I think is an exaggeration.
Women have all the same rights a man has and the wage gap is real BUT it isn't because men cheat women and pay them less, its because women (generally) choose lower paying jobs and choose family over working more than men. We can talk about why that is the case but I hate it when we just blame men for everything.
And in this patriarchal society we is it that :
- Men do more labour intensive jobs
- Men die significantly more on the job
- Men are more likely to be victims to violent crime
- Women get a lesser sentence than men for the same crime.
- Women are killing it in college attendance over men and more (didnt want this to get too long)
If the patriarchy is real it definitely hurts men to. Men arent as priviledged as you may think.
I'm not saying any gender has it harder than the other but I hate it when men are blamed for everything just for being men. And I think this so called "Patriarchy" benefits a small percentage of men, The really rich ones BUT definitely not the average normal majority of men. But I'm open to other opinions because I could be wrong. If I missed anything please educate me.
