I know that maternity leave is pretty universal, at least in the US. I had a professor that was offered paternity leave for a summer and fall semester, which was pretty cool. I know that maternity leave is also influenced by the physical recuperation required of a mother who has just gone through childbirth, but I feel like fathers should have the same opportunity to bond with their kids as do their mothers on maternity leave.
