This is all fed by the idea that all of our issues are 100% biological (ever heard of depression being caused by a chemical imbalance, to hell with anything in your environment or your own mentality causing it). Combine that with an annoying child (how many kids aren't?) and you've got yourself this idea that most children have a mental problem and a pill can cure it.

The worst part of all of this is the biological viewpoint of all moods is so deep that even a pseudo-intellectual group like found on Reddit is completely convinced without a doubt that medicating is the way to go for everything. Again using depression, anti-depressants were originally designed to assist in overcoming the depression. They were never meant to be a lifelong bandage while the wound festers. And yet that's what we're getting with companies that provide ads that remind you that you need these pills, or even better, your problem child needs something to calm 'em down.
