One of the many topics that always bothered me about feminism or even public opinion in general, was that according to their worldview, mostly women and girls suffer from sexual abuse and sexual harassment. I won't deny that it happens regularly to females, but the fact is that it's also a common occurrence for males. I would say to the same degree (this opinion is backed up by my research while looking at several studies and statistics on the subject). I am not here to deny their struggles, I am here to point out the fact that men also go through that type of sexual abuse on the same level and with the same frequency but without anyone there to actually listen.
For the first time, I am going to confess that I have been sexually abused more than once in my life (by women). I am not going to go into details but let's just say I wasn't the only one during one of those occurrences. I barely spoke about it because it was just too shameful and pointless. I wasn't truly hurt, not physically at least, so I figured it wasn't even worth mentioning. It's just part of living, you go through rough spots and you either ignore it, suppress it or take it with “humor” by claiming it wasn't a big deal.
I often felt like a hypocrite because when people (mostly women in the MeToo movement) talked about being harassed years prior by a pig, they almost always came out to speak against him years later after the fact. The reason why I kind of felt like a hypocrite when internally criticizing this is because one of the occasions of sexual harassment and abuse was done to me by a female boss who took the place of a former female boss (who was quite a good lady). I mentioned this once to a friend, he made fun of me and I never wanted to speak about it again until now.
I am going to mention two relatively recent occurrences I can remember involving two male friends. The first one involves a friend who was drugged and raped by a woman he knew, he stayed at her house for dinner and the typical thing happened: He felt dizzy and perhaps sleepy, he was taken to a bedroom and woke up with the woman who had made unwanted advancements towards him next to him in bed. It was pretty clear what had happened and she didn't have any qualms about it. Him being quite prideful, he never told anyone outside of two close friends, me and a common friend who knew the lady. It was clear he wasn't going to speak about it with anyone else and he was going through a rough time as well. That friend now has severe mental health issues after his depression got much worse and reached a point where he wanted to kill himself (not necessarily just because of this incident but by a lot of other problems her went through as well). He's alive now and trying to get help.
The other incident I can remember was a rather innocent and naive friend of mine who is much younger and was harassed by some women on the streets on the way to his college. He mentioned it to his female family members (we grew up mostly around women) and they made fun of him, he was obviously uncomfortable when talking about it, so I never brought it up when we were alone. I heard this from those same female family members who told the story to me as a joke.
That's just a small taste of what awaits males out there. Nobody listens and they don't care. The idealist in me wants to suggest you guys to speak out and raise awareness of the fact that women are not the only victims here, that the statistics are incomplete and that we need a lot more research and studies regarding female-perpetrated abuse. However, something tells me things won't change much even if a lot of men do talk about it.
