I would be interested to know if she had been examined by doctors and found to have been raped and attacked. If there was proof she was defending herself (and I just want to say that even that is a stretch seeing as how she disembowled him, then continued pursuing him into the street to continue attacking with a cleaver and a bat after he was not a threat anymore) then maybe I could understand the ruling. I can't completely agree with it, but it would make a bit more sense.

However, as I stated above, he could not have been much of a threat while literally holding his bowels inside his body and trying to flee. Yet she continued attacking, and left him to die. Why not call police and tell them her version? Things don't add up with the information given in the article.

There's your reasoning. The prosecution has to be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she was trying to kill him. Her defense was that she acted in self defense. Given that the man admitted the above, it's almost impossible to convict.
