So does that mean it doesn't set a precedent, so that (assuming the state doesn't re-file charges) a man in the same position can still be charged?

Congratulations to her legal team and to the judge. I don't approve of her actions but I'm all in favour of tight legal definitions - the real issue here is the question of whether a man would be treated the same way, and we all know the likelihood is that he wouldn't be. She has lost her job and her reputation will suffer some damage, and every time the case is reported on is hopefully going to reinforce that.

I see teacher sex cases as ranging from gross misconduct and breach of trust, to actual crimes, depending on the circumstances. The lack of integrity she has displayed should bar her from ever again working with young people, and there needs to be some sort of mechanism to ensure that, regardless of whether she is ever found guilty of a crime.
